There are two main positions at FC Barcelona that continue to cause problems for the side. The soon-to-be vacant defensive pivot position and the troublesome right-back spot.
In the case of both positions, Barcelona have the concept of improvisation in mind. Not possessing any good quality specialist at the right-back position, center-back Jules Kounde was tasked with handling the role throughout the 2022/2023 season, and did it well.
On the other hand, while this season Sergio Busquets was at the helm of the defensive midfield position, the only alternatives to him were the likes of Centre-back Eric Garcia as a makeshift pivot or Frenkie De Jong being deployed there.
Now, as reported by Mundo Deportivo, the possible arrival of Joshua Kimmich could prove to be a masterstroke on behalf of Barcelona. Naturally, a central defensive midfielder who played in that position for Pep Guardiola in 2015, the player has since then developed into a much more well-rounded and versatile footballer.
Now also capable of playing as an elite-level right-back, courtesy of the transitions he went through under the tutelage of Bayern managers Carlo Ancelloti and Jupp Heynckes.
Moreover, even while being deployed as part of a double pivot alongside Leon Goretzka, the player would stick to a more passive and defensive role similar to the profile of departing Sergio Busquets when he is deployed in a double pivot alongside the more progressive Frenkie De Jong.
Should the player arrive at FC Barcelona, the vicious German commander could prove to be a case of using one stone to hit three birds.
For one, he would act as a great replacement for Sergio Busquets. Secondly, he could also be a great option at right-back. And lastly, the player also brings with him experience, a winning mentality, and visibly strong leadership skills that a young Barcelona side would very much appreciate.
