The structural progression of FC Barcelona as a club is something that must be done meticulously. The Blaugranes know their financial limitations, and they know the care with which they have to deal with it. However, not everyone at Barcelona is arguably as competent at solving such issues as others.

For Barcelona, it is of pivotal importance that the club is careful in the way that it runs things and advances operations. Yet, if there was one man who knew exactly how to make the most of even the most dire of situations for the Catalan club was former Director Mateu Alemany.

Admired for the strictness with which he managed Barça’s resources, it is true that his absence has been felt at the club. Able to gain the upper hands in negotiations that were almost always favorable for La Blaugrana, he is unfortunately no longer tied to the side.

However, that does not mean that those within Barcelona would not want him back. In fact, as revealed by SPORT, the reason behind Barcelona president Joan Laporta’s surprise trip during the winter window to Mallorca was none other than to propose an offer of a possible return to Barcelona to Mateu Alemany himself.

The president reportedly admires the work that Alemany did at Barcelona, and knows his true value. Laporta acknowledges the progress made while he was in charge of a lot of things, and how it made Barcelona competitive despite not being in the best of financial states.

However, unfortunately for Laporta, Alemany’s future seems to remain away from Barcelona. The former Director seems to not have a desire to return to Catalonia, and instead is possibly focusing on other routes to take. His potential move to Atletico Madrid that was speculated earlier did not seem to materialize either.

He rejected the proposal presented by Laporta and his desire seems absolute. For now, the club continues to struggle in his absence and it seems that there has been a sharp decline since last season overall across the board.

At the moment, former Barcelona and Brazil midfielder Deco is responsible for several concerns at the club. This includes the previous duties of Alemany, and that seems to be a task too massive for one individual alone. Laporta knows that Alemany could be crucial to the club moving forward, and even moreso with the Super League beginning to finally take shape.
