One of the main operations being planned by FC Barcelona for the upcoming transfer window is the re-signing of Lionel Messi. While the proposed transfer is in no way an easy endeavor for the club, the club is still taking measures to complete the operation this summer.
One of the major stumbling blocks being considered in this operation was the breakdown of the relationship between the club President, Joan Laporta, and Lionel Messi.
According to some media reports, Messi was not very happy about the way his renewal had been handled by the club in 2021 when he had to leave Barcelona due to the ending of his contract with the Catalan club.
However, recent comments from the President can go a long way in calming the concerns of the fans about the breakdown of the relationship between the player and the incumbent President. Appearing in a TV show, the President disclosed that he has recently spoken with Messi, to amend the ties between the two parties.
He explained his situation to the player and explained how he had to consider the club’s interests and the FC Barcelona institution ahead of anything else, even the best player in the world.
The President claimed that the conversation between him and Messi was affectionate and pleasant and that he also congratulated the player for the World Cup triumph. He recounted how his relationship has been very good for the entire period the two parties have been associated with the club, except for the brief period of time in the last couple of years.
He showed optimism that the relationship that Messi has with Barcelona and its fans will compel him to choose Barcelona over any other suitors in the summer, particularly those from Saudi Arabia. However, he also showcased the limitations within which the club has to operate, as its weak financial conditions would not allow for a big financial package to be offered to the Argentine.
