FC Barcelona have started the 2024-25 season in a very strong fashion. Barring one game in La Liga and another in the UEFA Champions League, the Catalans have won all of their matches up to now, and most of them with some big margins.
With these results, the Blaugranas have secured a strong position in both La Liga and the UEFA Champions League standings, currently sitting first in the former and sixth in the latter.
In addition to providing them with a significant early advantage over their rivals, these results have also relieved a lot of pressure on the Joan Laporta administration.
In addition to this strong start to the season and the credit for the successful appointment of Hansi Flick, Laporta’s administration scored another victory as it was able to get its economic settlement for the last season and the budget for the current season passed by the members despite the opposition it faced from some sectors.
Amid all such successes, there were rumors that Laporta might take advantage of the good moment he is going through by calling elections early, which are going to be held next year in 2026. However, according to SPORT, the Barcelona president is not looking to take such a decision, as he does not want to give up on the year that still remains in his current tenure.
There are several reasons for this decision. For instance, he aims to get the club to recover from its financial woes completely before his first term ends. Similarly, Laporta also experienced a painful defeat in the past when a judge forced him to call elections in 2006 as he counted his eight days in 2003 as a full season.
For these reasons, Laporta is not planning to call early elections. But he is clear that he will run for presidency once again whenever the next elections are held, as it will be after that time that he will be able to reap the rewards of the work he is currently doing, especially on Camp Nou and on the club’s economy.
