The primary focus at the moment for FC Barcelona is to keep their season alive. The Blaugranes still have a fateful encounter against Napoli left to play, and it holds a lot of weight. However, beyond just this ongoing season, Barcelona also have certain hopes for the future.
One of those hopes is to invest properly in the summer transfer window and focus on creating a more competitive squad for next season. The poorly managed recruitment this summer was already highlighted in a previous report, but that is a mistake that Barcelona do not wish to repeat once again.
However, there are certain names in the world of football that simply can not be ignored. Whenever an opportunity presents itself in regards to such players, studying possible solutions is a must. That is why, as highlighted by SPORT, the meeting between Carlos Van Strahlen and Joan Laporta is intriguing.
As per the report, Carlos Van Strahlen just so happens to be the representative of Luis Diaz. The 27-year-old Colombian winger is one of the finest in the English Premier League, and is currently among the most integral players in Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool team.
Reportedly, Barcelona has remained attentive to his situation for quite some time. Believing him to be an interesting prospect to follow, rumors in the past have kept Barcelona and Diaz engaged. Moreover, in this latest meeting, the Barcelona president even reportedly enquired about what a possible operation for Diaz would cost.
However, what Laporta was met with was nothing short of disappointing. The player’s representative claimed it would take an amount beyond the €100 million mark, and likely between €120-140 million, to take away Diaz from his current team in England.
For Barcelona, especially at this moment in time, such a fee is essentially impossible to pay. Accordingly, that was also the response provided by Laporta. The Barcelona president, despite his good feelings towards the Colombian winger, knows that the price is beyond the means of the Catalan club.
However, while this session may not have given any positive answers that Barcelona were looking for, perhaps the club’s doors in the future could one day create an opportunity for the current Liverpool star.
