It appears that losing one prodigy was not enough misfortune for FC Barcelona this season. The Catalan giants have lost several stars already during this campaign, each to different problems. However, specific absentees have hurt Barcelona much more than others.

The first such casualty worth naming is understandably Gavi. A player who puts his heart and soul on the pitch for the Catalan giants, his ACL injury has already cost La Blaugrana a lot this season. Without him, a lot of matches become much more complicated due to the lack of energy in this Barcelona team.

However, he was not to be the last such casualty. Now, it appears that while Gavi is already set to miss out the rest of the season, another player will be joining him. As made official by FC Barcelona, Alejandro Balde is set to undergo surgery. Their official statement is as follows:

“Tests show that first team player Alejandro Balde has an injury to the tendon in his right hamstring. In the coming days he will undergo a surgical procedure at the hands of Dr. Lasse Lempainen, under the supervision of the Club’s medical staff, in Turku, Finland. Once the procedure has been carried out a new statement will be released.”

Injured in the last game against Athletic Club, the Barcelona fullback was already taken off around the 20th minute. His season already seems to now be over, as speculation has persisted over the last few hours in regards to a surgical intervention ending his season.

Now, it remains to be seen just when exactly Balde will return. However, Barcelona will now have to soldier on knowing that their primary left-back will not be coming back any time soon. In his stead, Xavi does have a few alternative options he can try out. Moreover, Barça are now also targeting a certain left-back from Las Palmas.
