The FC Barcelona board is working diligently to mitigate the club’s financial position, and are considering a number of options to raise funds and eliminate unnecessary expenses. Player sales are an important ingredient of this strategy, and the club is looking to sell a number of its players in the upcoming summer transfer window.
One of the players the club believes can fetch a handsome amount is the youngster Ansu Fati. While he was considered as the key player for Barcelona going forward only a few months ago, his inability to regain his early career form and his recurrent injuries have changed the club’s perspective on the player.
Decision makers at FC Barcelona believe that Fati still retains a handsome valuation in the market, and have identified him as a sellable asset this summer. In this regard, SPORT reports that Fati’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has assured the club that he will find a new destination for the player, and that he is in advanced negotiations with some Premier League sides.
Jorge Mendes has a great relationship with the President Joao Laporta, and he also recently traveled to Catalonia to convince Fati for a move. Currently, Wolverhampton Wanderers are in the pole position to get the highly-rated forward, and this operation can see their midfield anchor, Ruben Neves, moving to Barcelona in a player-plus-cash deal.
This entire operation would have a value of €80 million for the Catalan club, as they would receive €30 million in cash, while €50 million would be received in the form of Neves’ transfer to the Catalan side.
Successful completion of this operation would go a long way in convincing La Liga to allow the registration of players whose contracts are currently not being registered with the league.
While Fati himself is currently not keen on a move to Wolves, he will see pressure mounting on him as the transfer window approaches and proceeds. Other clubs like Newcastle are also interested in the player, and his departure looks increasingly likely this summer.
