FC Barcelona are constantly working on improving their financial situation these days. Having had to ensure a rather underwhelming transfer window due to their financial restrictions, La Blaugrana hope to avoid those same problems. Unfortunately, Barcelona still remains in a position where they struggle with these issues.
Moving forward, however, they will need to overcome them in order to execute their plans both when it comes to transfers and renewals. As for the latter, while it is important to introduce new members to the squad, it is perhaps even more crucial to retain the squad’s best players.
One of the players whose previous contract was based on a youth record is Fermin Lopez, who renewed in August until 2027 based on that record. Now, however, the latest report that has emerged claims that the player has now finally had an agreement with Barcelona that will see him renewed with a first-team record.
As per the latest information provided by Miguel Rico (h/t Reshad Rahman), Fermin Lopez and his agent have come to an agreement with Barcelona that will tie him down to the club for five more years after signing it. While the actual signature and official announcement are still pending, the details have reportedly been agreed upon now.
For Lopez, this renewal would be a massive step forward given the performances he gave for Barcelona last season and for Spain as well during the Summer Olympics. His importance to the team is undeniable, and he would now have a contract to showcase that.
While he may be sidelined right now, following an untimely injury that took place in his previous training appearance, there is no doubt within the club that he will be an important part of Hansi Flick’s team upon his return.
Unfortunately, Barcelona will be unable to make this renewal official until they have the right kind of Financial Fairplay to facilitate it. Until that happens, this agreement will likely remain in a state of limbo and could be made official at some point in the future.
The same will apply to the renewals that are being worked upon for other Barcelona talents as well. As it stands, it could just be that their announcements come in quick succession at a later point once the club is able to generate the right kind of FFP and decide upon the agreements that they need to make beforehand.
