Barcelona reaches new settlement with Ilkay Gundogan – report

FC Barcelona have various objectives that they are yet to accomplish through the summer window, with some closer to completion than others.

The signing of one German midfielder seems to have reached a turning point, with previously unattainable contractual conditions now more attainable, the signing seems to be reaching its final stages.

Ilkay Gundogan, Manchester City’s 32-year-old German midfielder, is set to see his contract expire on June 30 with the Citizens, after which he would be free to negotiate his transfer with any club of his choosing.

As per SPORT, the German and Barcelona were engaged in contractual negotiations and almost all conditions were met apart from the salary that the player demanded, which was seen as being much more than what Barcelona were willing to offer. However, recent revelations would suggest a new compromise has been reached.

FC Barcelona are now offering the player a longer contract with the previously unattainable salary conditions now more feasible as the player has agreed to lower the salary demands in return for a longer, more sustainable contract.

As previously reported, the player will not be finalizing his decision regarding his next club until after the German has finished the season with Manchester City. As it stands, Pep Guardiola and his side are still in contention for a historic treble at the time of writing.

They are set to face Real Madrid in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final, Manchester United in the FA Cup final, and are four games away from winning the Premier League.

Following these agreements with Gundogan, Barcelona are still yet to be given the official green light by La Liga and Javier Tebas, after which would they be able to pursue their various transfer targets over the course of the summer.

Ilkay Gundogan’s arrival is moreover one that generates a sporting consensus among the coaches, and the acquisition of such an elite midfielder is sure to generate much more positivity around Spotify Camp Nou.
