It is no breaking news that top players want FC Barcelona and Barcelona themselves also want these top stars. Donning the Blaugrana colors is a privilege available to only a select few, but to be among them you first have to catch the eyes of the Catalan giant.
However, once a star truly reaches the echelons of European football, it is only a matter of time before a club like Barcelona will become invested. It now seems to have been just the case for a particular German winger, whom La Blaugrana are keeping a very keen eye on.
According to Spanish outlet SPORT, Barcelona are now interested in the prospect of potentially signing 27-year-old Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane. An international for Germany, Sane is currently enjoying some of the best football he’s played throughout his career.
For Barcelona, Sane has been a topic of hot interest since quite some time now. In the previous few transfer windows, the Catalan giants probed regarding his availability and possible transfer.
However, due to the high costs involved, Barcelona could not compete for his signature given their financial limitations. On the other hand, the situation is slightly different now. With Sane’s contract set to expire in 2025 and it looking unlikely that he renews with Bayern, Barcelona could have a real fighting chance.
Moreover, because of the good relations maintained between Barca and Sane’s agent, who also represents Marcos Alonso, there exists a direct link.
To make a deal possible, Sane himself will also have to contribute by making some sort of financial sacrifice to help Barcelona make his arrival feasible given the fact that he remains one of the highest-paid stars within the German club. Furthermore, the final transfer fee of the operation will also need to be at a value where Barca can actually match it.
However, Barcelona will likely face competition from Spanish rivals Real Madrid who are also reportedly interested in Sane’s situation. With Xavi having wanted a pure winger following Dembele’s departure, it will now be key to assess the development of Raphinha in the coming months in order to truly make a transfer plan for the upcoming summer.
