FC Barcelona and Dutch players are known to have an affinity for one another. Be it Johan Cruyff, Edgar Davids, Ronald Koeman, Frenkie De Jong or any other, La Blaugrana and the Netherlands have shared many players between them for a defining reason.
Players usually brought up and developed in the Netherlands tend to study a philosophy quite akin to that of Barcelona. Much of this was all thanks to the innovations of Cruyff himself. As such, Barça continue to keep an eye on the Eredivisie even today.
In the latest reports, a Dutch midfielder by the name of Mats Wieffer has emerged as a potential Barcelona target. The 24-year-old midfielder currently plays for Dutch side Feyenoord and has been integral in helping them rise to the top domestically.
As SPORT highlights, it seems that Barcelona have indeed noticed the Dutch talent. In fact, Deco has reportedly even consulted a former Barça player about him. Giovanni van Bronckhorst, an active FC Barcelona player between 2003 and 2007, was the man that Deco entrusted to gather information.
The Dutch icon reportedly spoke various words of praise for the talented midfielder. He labeled Wieffer as one of the most integral cogs in the Feyenoord side that ended up winning the league last season as well.
Stylistically, Barcelona have absolutely no complaints in terms of this target. Seen as an exceptionally smart player, his technical ability and vision are both labeled as being a great direct replacement to the traits provided by former Barcelona legend Sergio Busquets.
However, given their limited economic allowance, Barcelona will tread carefully. Deco will hope to first analyze all the players on the shortlist for La Blaugrana before making a final call on whether or not it is ultimately Wieffer that they pursue.
