FC Barcelona have had to deal with multiple financial and political issues over the course of the last couple of years. One that has in particular and substantially deterred the Catalan giants from taking part actively in the biggest of names during transfer windows has been the case of La Liga’s strict Financial Fairplay rulings.
The club has continuously tried various formulas to escape the clutches of this daunting issue, yet even sales of percentages of long-term assets have not entirely blocked the continuous rampage of the financial issues at hand.
For Barcelona to improve their current scenario drastically, they must also make similarly drastic and unwanted decisions. The most recent and seemingly advanced of which, is the departure of important players who would continue to have a market that could generate sizeable revenue.
Ansu Fati, 20-year-old Barcelona forward and La Masia product, is the most recent victim of such a scenario. The player’s performances over the last 2 seasons, in particular, have been heavily critiqued and seen a decline statistically due to injury problems, the subsequent recovery phase, and now the aftermath: leaving behind a youngster, possessing absurd amounts of potential, almost a shell of his former self.
As Jorge Mendes had reportedly assured the club before as well, he did manage to bring about a transfer offer for the young Spaniard worth around €70-80 million.
The offer comes in the shape of a swap deal between Fati and a midfielder from the Premier League who Barcelona have been following and keeping tabs on, while also seeing an amount of €30 million be added alongside that player, according to RELEVO.
Ruben Neves currently plays for English premier league side Wolverhampton Wanderers, commonly known as Wolves, and is primarily a defensive midfielder who can also be deployed as an interior when needed.
The player is currently valued at exactly €40 million on Transfermarkt, and with the additional €30 million attached in the proposed offer for Ansu Fati, the essential package in its entirety is worth €70 million.
Despite the considerable proposal at hand, it remains clear that Ansu Fati has no intentions to leave FC Barcelona, and until and unless the winger agrees to move, any such transfer would not be taking place.
Moreover, Xavi Hernandez himself has discarded the option for Ruben Neves, as the coaching staff remains unconvinced with his profile and the qualities the 26-year-old midfielder would bring to the Catalan outfit.
