Winning the La Liga title this season can have significant implications for FC Barcelona. In addition to the enhanced prestige, glory, and cash prizes, this triumph will also translate into an advantage for the club in the European competitions starting next season.
Being the champions of Spain means FC Barcelona have regained their seeding status for the next draw of the 2023-24 Champions League Group Phase. The Spanish champions will not have to face other league-winning clubs from Germany, France, England, or Italy, and would also avoid the Europa League winners and this year’s Champions League winners as well on top of that.
This the club would not be facing Napoli, who have officially been declared as the Champions of Italy. The league campaigns in these other top footballing countries have not yet concluded. Still, Bayern Munich or Dortmund are expected to be the champions in Germany, PSG in France, and Manchester City or Arsenal in England.
Having ended second on the league table in the last few seasons, FC Barcelona had a difficult pairing in the Champions League group stage, which ultimately resulted in their elimination in the very first round of the tournament.
However, this time around, they would avoid other European powerhouses and with their better form and squad, are expected to go far in the premier European tournament. The draw for the group stage will take place on 31st August, while the first matches will be played on 19th and 20th September.
Within this period, the club is expected to undergo a period of significant change, and the team appearing in this Champions League match could be significantly different from the current FC Barcelona team.
