While the business in the summer transfer window is in full swing, Barcelona remains relatively quiet after confirming just the signing of İlkay Gündoğan on a free transfer so far. Moreover, the Catalans are also quite inactive on the selling end, having only Samuel Umtiti’s contract terminated with mutual agreement.
As reported by SPORT, now the club has rejected an offer for Franck Kessie who is one of the Blaugrana players previously rumored with a move away from Camp Nou after just arriving a year ago. The Ivorian is a coveted name on the market, but the club made clear that they are not willing to sell the player unless a sizeable offer comes in that they cannot refuse.
At the beginning of the summer, Kessie was on the list of players who were considered transferable by Xavi, but recently, following Deco’s appointment in the sports management halted progress in the matter. The former Brazilian player considers the midfielder a very profitable asset that the club cannot allow to undersell in any case.
Nevertheless, what is certain is that the Catalan club has not yet received any offer above the €30 million margin, a figure that the Blaugrana higher-ups are willing to negotiate for. The same report mentions that Galatasaray was the last club to ask about the player, but Barça rejected their offer of a loan with a purchase option included for Kessie.
In recent weeks, there were rumors circulating about a potential Saudi proposal for the player, but there has not been any knowledge of that from the club’s part. The player is also clear about his intention to continue at Barcelona, having already rejected a proposal from Inter in January.
What’s known as of today, Kessie will start the preseason at the club and it would be a surprise not to see him part of the Catalans’ project heading into the new season.
