Barcelona continue to assess further options for reinforcement even as they simultaneously compete in their pre-season tour of the United States of America against various top sides from across Europe.
As such, the sporting section of the club continues to hold negotiations with various entities that could possibly be of interest to Barcelona and the plans of Xavi Hernandez for the upcoming season.
One such area that Barcelona will definitely want to reinforce before the end of the summer is that of the right-back position, one where the club is definitely understaffed due to the lack of specialists they have within the side.
According to Spanish journalist Gerard Romero however, Barcelona have apparently reactivated talks with Spanish fullback Ivan Fresneda of Segunda Division side Real Valladolid.
The player was one of the great revelations of Real Valladolid last season from an otherwise disappointing season. The Barcelona target was one of their few highlights and his performances have turned the heads of many European elites.
Now, as Valladolid have been relegated to the Segunda Division, Barcelona and others have been notified of his rumored €40 million release clause having dropped down to €20 million as per reports.
However, for a while, Barcelona’s contacts with the player had gone quiet and many had assumed the interest in the player had subsided. Now, Romero reports, it seems very much the opposite given possibly a recent re-evaluation of the current squad.
As a result, it will be interesting to see exactly where FC Barcelona end up going with this deal and to what extent they negotiate a potential deal with Real Valladolid for Fresneda, if matters reach that extreme.
