The gates of FC Barcelona are never closed to welcome new talent that deserves to be there at the Catalan club. Regardless of where they hail from, as long as a player is worthy of donning the Blaugrana jersey, they will remain a priority and welcome addition to the Barcelona roster.
Among the many who dream of joining Barcelona one day themselves, only some tend to truly possess the qualities to do so. One such player currently plies his trade in the German Bundesliga, and it appears that his connections to Barcelona may just be stronger than simple speculation.
According to Spanish outlet Esport3, FC Barcelona are currently interested in bringing in German sensation Florian Wirtz all the way from Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen. Considered a generational talent within the German talent pool, Wirtz and Barcelona are not being linked together for the first time.
As per the latest report, despite the interest from Barcelona to potentially bring him over to Spain, his transfer would be a significantly expensive one. According to the source, a transfer fee in the region of €100 million will first need to be sorted in order to successfully pursue one of Germany’s brightest talents.
Given the peculiar state of Barcelona’s finances, an offer of €100 million seems next to impossible at the moment. For Barcelona, a transfer that sizeable will need to be thoroughly assessed before being advanced upon.
On the other hand, Wirtz is already deemed to be an extraordinary talent that is already leading a team like Bayer Leverkusen with his performances while only being 20 years of age.
In terms of statistics, the 20-year-old German midfielder has played 7 games for Leverkusen across three different competitions: the Bundesliga, the UEFA Europa League, and the DFB-Pokal. Across all competitions, the German has managed to score 3 goals and provide 3 assists as well.
Interestingly, Florian Wirtz has previously publicly stated his adoration and desire to one day represent FC Barcelona. In an interview with Sport Bild, the German clearly singled out Barca as his future desire around two years ago, stating in 2021:
“As a little boy, I always wanted to play for Barcelona. Nothing has changed in this regard, but until then I still have some time.”
