The overall priority for FC Barcelona across the summer transfer window is to essentially assemble a team willing and capable of taking on the rest of Europe with the belief that they are equally competitive for every single title.
In terms of recruitment priority, however, it is clear that there are a select few positions where emphasis will be put. The pivot position, a new central midfielder or interior as well as a new secondary striker are considered to be the positions Xavi Hernandez would like reinforced primarily.
However, albeit to a lesser degree, the position of the right-back is one that is still yet to be completely sorted out. Currently, the club possesses no natural right-backs other than the newly added but still young, Julian Araujo.
As per the most recent update by SPORT, the latest addition to the team could end up being Belgian right-back Thomas Meunier, who is thought to be willing to wait for Barcelona and even go as far as to stall other opportunities for the Catalans.
Currently contracted to Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund, his time at the club will soon come to an end on the 30th of June next year when his contract eventually expires and the Belgian fullback could well be on his way out of Germany as a whole for his next destination.
As of right now, an intention to renew does not seem present, while interest from clubs such as Juventus and Inter Milan continues to loom over the Belgian.
Barcelona, on the other hand, themselves consider the opportunity to bring in Meunier as a low-cost alternative to other options such as the likes of Juan Foyth of Villarreal or Joao Cancelo of Manchester City, with the latter two having significant transfer fees attached to them by their respective clubs.
