As FC Barcelona continue to comb the market for a competent midfield pivot, one of the players that has been consistently linked with the Catalans is the German Joshua Kimmich. The Catalans have been in contact with the midfielder’s entourage for the last several months, but have been unable to bring him in their team.

Now, SPORT reports that Kimmich has a very high possibility of leaving Bayern Munich this summer, but the chances of Barcelona getting the German are not too high. As the Catalans would find it hard to pay Bayern’s asking price, the footballer can look at other potential destinations to continue his playing career.

Kimmich’s current contract with Bayern ends in 2025, and he has not negotiated a renewal with the German champions. He believes his cycle in Germany has come to an end, and Munich will also be open to selling him this summer so they do not have to lose him for free next year.

FC Barcelona are still interested in the player, and Kimmich himself loves Barcelona. He reportedly talked to Xavi Hernandez last summer and was clear that he can adapt to Barcelona’s style of play, but he cannot wait forever.

He is looking to sort out his future before the UEFA EURO 2024 begins, and as things stand, Barcelona cannot give him any guarantees, as they will have to sell several of their players to be able to afford the 29-year-old German midfielder.

Thus, with the Blaugranes’ chances of getting the midfielder getting increasingly slim, Paris Saint Germain or Manchester City can be the two most likely destinations for him for the next season. Both the clubs see him as a market opportunity, but will have to pay more than €65 million for him.

Bidding for the player has already started, and there can be a breakthrough after the Champions League quarter-finals. Bayern are still trying to keep him without increasing his salary, but the chances of such a possibility are minimal.
