With the help of some FC Barcelona players, Spain finally ended an 11-year drought by lifting the Nations League trophy after beating Croatia 5-4 on penalties in Sunday’s final.
It took only four games under the guidance of Luis de la Fuente for La Roja to win the title. The title-winning Spain squad included several Barcelona players, such as Pablo Gavi, Ansu Fati, and Jordi Alba.
However, during the celebrations after winning the Nations League, Gavi was subject to insults from their own fans while making his speech. The young player, who heard abusive shouts as he addressed the crowd, has received many expressions of affection in the last few hours, one of them from his club.
According to Mundo Deportivo, FC Barcelona wanted to show their unconditional support and backing for the academy graduate with a post on social networks featuring an image of the player kissing the Barça crest after scoring a goal. The picture is accompanied by two hearts, colored blue and red respectively, as a sign of the club’s love for its footballer.
The Blaugrana club wanted to transmit its support to the player with a social media post. As expected, messages in favor of the player began to appear in replies to the Catalans’ tweet, and Barça supporters expressed their backing for the young homegrown player, who has developed in the Catalans’ youth setup since 2015.
It’s not a newfound issue that Gavi becomes the target of hatred from opposition fans, but it’s a shame that even the Spanish fans start to insult him after a victorious final. Otherwise, Gavi performed well in Fuente’s team, starting both games of the final four – in the semi-final vs Italy and the final vs Croatia as well – and being an important element of Spain’s historical title-winning team.
