Barcelona target Iñigo Martínez

Barcelona set to announce first signing of the summer – report

FC Barcelona are set to pursue multiple targets over the course of the summer transfer window as they await certain confirmations regarding the funds that they would be eligible to devote to said targets.

However, as recent revelations would suggest and portray, Barcelona may be looking to announce their very first signing of the summer already as soon as they get the green light from La Liga.

As per Ferran Correas of SPORT, FC Barcelona are ready to soon announce the signing of Spanish central defender Inigo Martinez as a free agent following the expiry of his previous contract with fellow La Liga side Athletic Bilbao.

The 32-year-old defender is currently injured as he makes his way through the last month of his ongoing contract with Athletic Bilbao. Believed to already have had a pre-agreement in place with FC Barcelona, the defender will soon be making his way to Camp Nou.

According to the same report, the player has also completed his medical already for the Catalan giants and all that FC Barcelona are now currently waiting for before publicly and officially announcing his signing for the club is the approval for the Financial feasibility plan by the offices of La Liga.

Following said approval, the club will be able to register both the new defender as well as pending contractual renewals that are yet to be renewed. Moreover, to avoid any long-term mishaps regarding continuity and registrations, Barcelona have also included a clause in the contract of Martinez that would allow him to leave on loan for a season should the unwanted scenario arise.

In terms of reported details, the Spanish defender is set to earn a similar salary as he was earning at Athletic Bilbao. An approximate amount of €9 million is the reported salary that the player would be on during his two-year stay at FC Barcelona.
