FC Barcelona are focusing on undertaking a number of contract renewal operations this summer. These operations are in varying stages of development, but one that is expected to be completed soon is that of the goalkeeper, Inaki Pena.
According to Mundo Deportivo, FC Barcelona and Inaki Pena have arrived on an agreement regarding the terms of his contract renewal. As both parties finalize these terms, the actual announcement of the contract renewal can be made by the club as soon as today.
Both parties have been on common ground regarding the goalkeeper’s contract renewal for months now. However, different situations and priorities for the club kept it from giving the required attention to this matter.
Inaki’s current contract runs till the June of this season, and will he will be a free agent this summer if his contract is not renewed. Previously, the club was not very clear on whether they wanted to extend his contract, especially when Xavi preferred to start Ter Stegen over the young keeper in the Copa del Rey tie against Real Sociedad.
However, the coaching staff at FC Barcelona have convinced the decision-makers to bet on Pena for the long term, and the club decided to give him a longer contract. The new contract offered to the player will run up to 2026.
After finalizing the goalkeeper’s contract, the club will start focusing on renewals of other important players, including Alejandro Balde and Lamine Yamal. Other important players like Gavi, Araujo, etc., have already signed a contract renewal with the club, and these contracts only remain to be registered with La Liga.
