With the summer transfer window approaching, FC Barcelona are wholly active in the market to bolster their squad for the next season. While some months remain until the next season starts, the club has already concluded some of its transfer operations.
For instance, the club has already concluded the signing of center-back Inigo Martinez for free, as the player’s contract with Athletic Club ended this season. The Basque central defender is highly experienced in La Liga and would provide a good backup to the established stars in the Barcelona backline.
In addition to Martinez, Barcelona have also signed a young center-back with huge potential, as was confirmed by Fabrizio Romano. The player in question is the Senegalese Mikayil Faye, whom FC Barcelona have reportedly bought from Croatian second-division club NK Kustosija for €5 million alongside add-ons.
The latest news in this regard by Jijantes FC claims that the player is already in Barcelona for his medical and is set to become a Barcelona player. Thus, it looks like Barcelona are very close to officially announcing his signing and have beaten other top European clubs interested in the teenager, including Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea.
The signing of Faye is another step in the direction that the club has taken recently in its transfer dealings, i.e. focusing on buying youngsters with high potential before their values go too high.
As the current financial position of the club, coupled with the historically high purchasing powers of some of European clubs, forces Blaugrnes to make smart moves in the transfer market and focus on developing players, as has been the case with Pedri and Ronald Araujo.
Thus, with the conclusion of Faye’s signing close at hand, FC Barcelona will be hoping that the 18-year-old Senegalese lives up to his potential, and goes on to become an important part of the Barcelona team in years to come.
