In addition to strengthening their squad going into the next season, another major objective for FC Barcelona in this summer transfer window was to conclude the contract renewals of some of its existing players.
A number of important squad players have their contracts nearing their expiration, while other players still have only a youth player contract. Barcelona have a task on their hand to update these players’ contracts to ensure their long-term presence at the Catalan club.
Recent reports indicate that the club has made significant progress towards the renewal of some of these players. Highly reputable journalist, Fabrizio Romano, has reported that Barcelona are close to completing the contract extension agreement for Lamine Yamal and Alejandro Balde.
The report mentions that these agreements can be finalized in the coming few days. Under this agreement, Balde will renew his contract for five years, and his new contract will be valid till 2028.
Similarly, Lamine Yamal, who turned sixteen years of age only in the last week, will sign a three-year contract with the club, which will keep him associated with the Blaugranes till June 2026.
It needs to be noted here that this would be the first professional contract for Lamine Yamal, and under UEFA regulations, a youth player can only be given a contract of maximum of three years.
Balde and Yamal are among the most promising players to have come out of La Masia in recent history. Balde is already an established component in Xavi’s first team and was an integral part of the Barcelona squad that won La Liga last season.
Lamine Yamal is still a work in progress, but early signs have indicated that the teenager is destined for greatness.
The 16-year-old forward has impressed the Barcelona coaches so much that Xavi has already debuted him in La Liga and has called him up for training with the first team on several occasions. His renewal is of the highest priority for the club, as he remains one of the most promising players in his age group.
