Former Barcelona B team player Ilaix Moriba

Barcelona set to earn 10% from the potential sale of former La Masia midfielder

FC Barcelona youth academy has turned out a number of midfielders in recent years who have gone on to develop into some highly promising players. However, one of the players graduating from La Masia whose career has not gone exactly according to the script is Ilaix Moriba.

Ilaix Moriba was one of the highest-rated players in the Barcelona B team, and his development trajectory was projected to be the best among the bunch of La Masia players. However, he was unable to take the advantage of the growth opportunity he had at FC Barcelona, and left for Germany for a better contract than what was being offered by Barcelona.

His time in Germany did not exactly go as planned, as he was unable to impress his coaches in RB Leipzig, and thus was unable to get a fixed position in the squad. He only made six appearances with the German team, and Leipzig is looking for a way to offload the player who has failed to live up to his potential.

The player has spent the last two seasons on loan at Valencia, where, once again, he has been unable to carve out a position for himself. With his future still unclear, he is expected to move again as Leipzig try to recover their losses on the player.

According to SPORT, one of the clubs interested in the player is the current Italian champions, AC Milan. While the player is currently short of other suitors, whichever club he moves to in the summer, it would bring profit for the Catalan club.

This is because the Blaugranes had a right of 10% of proceeds of any future sale in the agreement with RB Leipzig, which can be triggered this summer, and bring some much-needed financial reprieve for the club.
