Clarity remains concrete within FC Barcelona regarding their priority targets for the summer transfer window, with most of them being players situated in the midfield region of the pitch.
On the other hand, Barcelona were also quite concerned with their current right-back situation, despite it not exactly being a priority for them. The lack of specialists within that area of the field is something that the Catalans have had to compensate for by deploying the likes of Ronald Araujo and Jules Kounde at right back.
However, the Catalans may just have lost sight of a low-cost avenue that they can now no longer turn to.
As per the most recent revelations by Mundo Deportivo in regards to Barca’s right-back hunt, Borussia Dortmund defender and Belgian player Thomas Meunier is now moving further away from Barcelona due to a lack of development from the club’s side upon their communicated interest in the right back.
Given the player’s experience, he was considered a decent sporting and financial opportunity by Barcelona as Borussia Dortmund would reportedly be willing to let him go for as low a transfer fee as €2 million to €4 million, with there also existing the possibility of a free transfer to avoid having to retain his wages for any longer.
The player is now speculated to no longer be considering a move to the city of Barcelona due to very little advancements in terms of progressing a potential deal with La Blaugrana, and has since become more involved in negotiations with interested sides from Italy’s Serie A and the English Premier League.
These certain interested sides include the likes of AC Milan, Inter Milan, Juventus, and the Unai Emery-led Aston Villa.
Once quite enthusiastic about possibly getting to represent Barcelona and having even made direct contact with Jordi Cruyff around last year, it now seems that both player and club have concluded that their priorities must lie elsewhere.
