There have been several players from opposite sides this season that FC Barcelona fans will remember for their performances, and Granada’s Bryan Zaragoza is definitely one of them.
The youngster was too hot to handle for Barcelona’s defense when the Catalans visited Los Carmenes in October, as he scored two goals in the opening half-hour of the game.
The 22-year-old is currently being highlighted in the news as his transfer to Bayern Munich is in its final stages. The Bavarians will pay the €14 million release clause for the player, but he will move to Munich only in the summer, as he will stay with Granada till the end of the season to help them avoid relegation.
Other sides like Brentford and Leipzig were also interested in signing the winger, but the Bavarians ultimately took the lead and signed him. He was close to signing for Leipzig, but the negotiations took longer than expected as they wanted to get the winger in January and not wait till the summer.
In addition to these sides, Barcelona could have been another club where Zaragoza could have ended up. According to SPORT, the Catalans had also developed an interest in the winger in recent weeks, however, their financial fair play situation meant they could not make a move for him immediately.
The player was also not willing to wait as he had not received any guarantees from the Catalans. Barcelona had planned to keep on monitoring the player for the time being, and then make efforts to convince him for a move in February-March 2024.
Furthermore, his release clause would have been lowered by one-half, to €7 million, if Granada got relegated by the end of the season, which also compelled Barcelona to wait a while before making a move for him.
