The 2023-24 La Liga campaign has started for FC Barcelona but the Catalans still have not been able to register all their players with La Liga yet.
As a result, players like Marcos Alonso and Inaki Pena were unable to participate in the season-opening match against Getafe, while Inigo Martinez, who is not fit for a competitive match yet anyway, is also not registered.
There are two more players whose contract is not yet registered with La Liga, Sergino Dest, and Clement Lenglet. The club does not need these two players for the season ahead, and their contracts will be registered only if it is entirely necessary to do so.
However, according to a report from SPORT, the club expects at least two of the three previously mentioned players to be registered by tomorrow, i.e., Wednesday.
These two players are Marcos Alonso and Inaki Pena, and both these players will be available to Xavi for the second La Liga match against Cadiz, as Barcelona look to make their debut at the Montjuic stadium this Sunday.
Inigo Martinez is still recovering from the physical problems that he came to his new club with, and thus, the club has not treated his registration with La Liga as a priority as he would not be available to play anyway.
However, the Spaniard is recovering well from his physical issues, and as he nears full fitness, the club will also register him with La Liga by next week, so that Xavi has another experienced center-back available to him.
After being registered, Alonso and Pena will also be available to Xavi, although they are not expected to start the match at Montjuic. Still, their presence will provide the team with much-needed depth, especially in the goal with Inaki Pena’s availability as Xavi had to take the youth teamer, Ander Asterlaga, for the Getafe match.
