This pre-season and the upcoming season will see a lot of changes related to FC Barcelona. The faces of the new players the club has signed in this transfer window will be one such change, but it will not be the only change.

Another change that Cules would easily identify in the upcoming season would be the kits that Barcelona players will be wearing in matches. Like other clubs, Barcelona changes its jersey style and color every season, but this change is going to be historic this time around.

As Diario AS has reported, FC Barcelona will be playing in white-colored kit against Arsenal this Wednesday after forty-four years. The last time that the Blaugranes played a match in white was in March 1979, when they faced Ipswich Town.

After that tie, white was not taken as a kit color by the club. Still, this color is a part of Barcelona’s history. The Catalan club appeared in matches in white kits from their earliest days up to the end of the 1970s and have made memorable appearances in tournaments like the Latin Cup, Fairs Cup, and European Cup wearing white.

Following the 1980s, white was removed from the club’s kits, and the Cules did not take it lightly when Kappa placed some white color on the club’s jersey for the 1992-93 season. Currently, white is traditionally associated with FC Barcelona’s fiercest rivals, Real Madrid, and there has already been some backlash to the club’s decision to adopt white as its second kit color.

Barcelona President, Joan Laporta, was also questioned about the choice of the second kit color recently, and he justified this choice by claiming that other colors had been tried before, and Cryuff had also worn white during his time at Barcelona and thus is a part of Barcelona’s historical identity.

Clubs legends like Pique have also shown a readiness to support the white kit, but it remains to be seen how the fans would react when the team comes out wearing white on Wednesday against Arsenal.
