FC Barcelona have managed to close down the signing of 18-year-old Lucas Roman for €1.2 million, to incorporate him into Barcelona Atlètic to aid them in their efforts to achieve promotion, according to Albert Roge.
As per the latest reports from SPORT, initially, negotiations between Barcelona and the Argentina side Ferro Carril Oeste had been ongoing for quite some time over the young Argentinean to join the Catalan outfit.
Lucas Roman is a skilled left-footed “number 9” and most reports on the player describe him as a versatile forward who can be incorporated as both a Centre forward as well as a Right winger, showcasing a trait of adaptability that will likely be very appreciated at Barcelona.
Regarded as a ‘jewel’ for Argentine football, Barcelona were far away from being the only club to have pursued him thus far. Two top clubs from his own homeland, Boca Juniors, and River Plate, had already failed in their attempts to sign him previously.
While Lucas Roman has not yet played for his country’s senior team, he is present within their youth categories. Currently preparing under the tutelage of former Barcelona defender Javier Mascherano for the South American U-20 championships in January of this year.
Prior to this signing, Barcelona had been monitoring the young Argentine Lucas Roman since 2022, and have been assessing him for quite some time before ultimately having decided to sign the South American prodigy.
His contract was set to expire in December of 2023, thus having been available for negotiations regarding his transfer on rather lower fees than what would arguably have been a much higher asking price from his former club Ferro Carril Oeste.
Barcelona have ended up signing potentially a future star as those who have scouted him have expressed the youngster to be, and it will indeed be a fascinating tale to follow once the Argentine arrives to sunny Catalonia
