There is no doubt that the FC Barcelona team has had a very successful start to the season. The level at which the team has performed was not predicted even by the most optimistic of the club’s fans at the end of last season, but under Hansi Flick, Barcelona have clearly shown that they mean business this season.

The good results obtained up to now in the season are having a big impact on the Catalan club, which goes beyond the points won on the La Liga and the UEFA Champions League tables. On the pitch, the team has seen its morale boosted, especially with the big wins over Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

But as SPORT has noted, this good start to the season is also having an impact on the very highest level at Barcelona, as these results have finally vindicated the Sporting Director, Deco, who had been facing a lot of criticism for the failures in the last season and in the summer transfer window.

The inability to win any significant trophy last season, Xavi’s departure, and the inability to get hold of some of the club’s most desired targets due to limited finances had left Deco very frustrated, and the Portuguese official’s future at the Catalan club was far from certain.

However, the start that the team has had to the season has relieved him of a lot of pressure. The team is unstoppable in La Liga and performing very well in the Champions League. Academy players have plugged in the different deficiencies that the team had, and the only notable signing of the last transfer window, Dani Olmo, is also already proving to be a success.

The appointment of Hansi Flick as the head coach is also already turning out to be a very good decision from the club. Furthermore, Joan Laporta has also taken a lot of time to highlight the work of Deco, a lot of which goes unnoticed by the fans, in his several public appearances recently.

Owing to all these factors, Deco now feels encouraged and supported at the club and is ready to continue as the club’s Sporting Director even if Laporta calls early elections next year.
