FC Barcelona were able to significantly lower their wage bill over the last year, but this reduction has still not been enough to allow Barcelona any room for movement in the upcoming winter window.
The main objective for Barcelona in this winter window is to ensure the arrival of Brazilian starlet Vitor Roque, but the club will have to work very hard in the upcoming two and a half months to be able to achieve this objective.
Barcelona’s situation in the winter window
As SPORT has reported, this was confessed by the Barcelona Sporting Director, Deco, recently, as he appeared for an interview with Mundo Deportivo. The Sporting Director was clear that Barcelona will find it difficult to strengthen themselves in the winter transfer window:
“I think it’s going to be difficult to make new additions. We will always be on the lookout in case there’s an opportunity, but I don’t think it’s going to be possible.”
Vitor Roque’s arrival
However, Deco admitted that there was still a chance to get Vitor Roque this winter but also hinted that his arrival could be postponed till the summer:
“From the first minute, it was clear with Athletico Paranaense that Vitor could only come from January, which was one of the conditions of the agreement, but we will try. We’ll see what we can do. He’s a player we’ve signed for the present and the future, we believe in him a lot, but we have to wait a bit and see how we can work this out. If it’s not now, it will be in July for sure.”
Deco went on to reveal that while he has had discussions with Xavi regarding the arrival of Vitor Roque, no discussions have taken place regarding a substitute for Oriol Romeu.
Overall, Deco was satisfied with the squad for Barcelona but confessed there were more departures in the last summer window than he would have liked.
