Barcelona squad gets a much-needed respite

One of the most pressing issues that FC Barcelona have faced this season is that of injuries. Xavi Hernandez has seen several of his players miss important games throughout the season because of physical problems, and players like Gavi and Ter Stegen have been sidelined for a long time with these issues.

While there may be a number of reasons for this high number of injuries suffered by Barcelona players this season, one can argue that the little rest these players have been getting between games is one of its most prominent causes.

As SPORT has noted, the Barcelona squad will have a day of rest today on Monday, which has come more than a month after the last day of rest the team enjoyed on December 29.

The match against Alaves in the Mendizorroza was the last one in a highly hectic period for the club in which it had to play a high number of matches against difficult opposition.

The Barcelona infirmary has been full in the last few weeks. Inigo Martinez returned against Alaves, and Ter Stegen and Raphinha are also close to returning in the coming days.

Now, with Barcelona having two weeks with only two games before the Champions League Round of 16 starts, Xavi can hopefully have more players recovered for the upcoming stretch of games.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, will also be a day off for Barcelona players, and these two days will allow the players to regain their mental and physical sharpness.

However, this rest has been possible only because the Catalans were eliminated from the Copa del Rey in the last round, and thus have to play in one competition less.

Although winning La Liga or the Champions League looks highly difficult this season, Barcelona are still in contention for these competitions, and the rest afforded to the team in these days can help the club make a charge for these trophies in the final months of the season.
