FC Barcelona need solutions to their problems, and their issues are beginning to pile up. In terms of injuries, the numbers are beginning to pile up and Barça are left with scars. Even for the remainder of the season, Barcelona will have a handicap to work with.
Both Pedri and Frenkie De Jong were the latest names to be added to the infirmary list. The two midfielders were injured against Athletic Club in the latest outing for Barcelona, one that ended in a goalless draw and did not give much joy to Xavi’s team on a collective basis either.
However, when it comes to the Dutchman’s injury, there are more and more reports beginning to pile up about his current status. According to the information provided by SPORT, things are not exactly looking too positive in terms of how soon he may return.
Frenkie De Jong is now likely to stay sidelined until the 30th of March, almost this entire month now. While the exact final diagnosis and evaluation of his injury will provide even more details, his ankle injury seems to be more on the severe side and could thus take longer to fully heal.
As a consequence, he is now also set to miss the visit from Napoli in the UEFA Champions League. Moreover, he will miss crucial league outings against the likes of Mallorca and Atletico Madrid. There is also a chance of the Dutchman missing the game against UD Las Palmas, in case he needs more time to recover.
However, in the event that Barcelona manages to overcome Napoli in Europe’s Premiere competition, De Jong could force himself to play for a hypothetical quarterfinal. At the moment, however, Barcelona are taking things step by step and are going to be cautious with his recovery.
For the moment, the ideal return for the Barcelona star would be the trip to Cadiz. By that point, the team captain is expected to be back but it also means that he will remain out of action for Barcelona for close to a month, which is way too long of a period given that the crucial part of the season is now here.
