The summer transfer window has begun for FC Barcelona and clubs across Europe are scurrying to conclude their respective transfer dealings. However, as always, there is one strong headliner who usually dominates the market.
Last summer is a prime example of such dominance in terms of being the main player in a transfer market. FC Barcelona themselves were the focal club that was making most of the business happen in terms of loaning out players and acquiring multiple stars throughout the window.
This time around, however, a change in tides can be witnessed. For once, it is no club in Europe that is the focal point of a transfer window, but rather clubs from another continent altogether who are collectively stealing the headlines.
While Barcelona have recently received the green light for their Financial Feasibility Plan and are beginning to go ahead with their summer plans, the current market seems to be mainly dominated by clubs from the Middle East.
Saudi Arabian clubs such as the likes of Al-Nassr, Al-Ittehad, and Al-Hilal among others continue to splash the cash in order to acquire the superstars who they wish to bring to the Middle East and take away from the clutches of European football.
As reported by SPORT, the most recent of such superstars that the Middle Eastern clubs are attempting to lure is none other than FC Barcelona talisman Robert Lewandowski.
After having attracted Cristiano Ronaldo to the Saudi Arabian league last season, the likes of Karim Benzema and Sergio Ramos are set to join the Portuguese this year.
It does not come as a surprise that the clubs would be interested in the likes of Lewandowski, with the Pole having had a magnificent first season at Barcelona, finishing as the top scorer for the team and in the domestic league.
However, the player is not expected to be moving any time soon. Being a vital piece for Xavi Hernandez and an untouchable for FC Barcelona, the Pole came last summer following massive struggles for both player and club to join sides. It seems unlikely that he would be considering a move over this summer.
Moreover, a meeting between Joan Laporta, the Saudi Sports Ministry, and Pini Zahavi (agent of Robert Lewandowski) took place recently in Saudi Arabia.
Any potential interest in Robert Lewandowski was reportedly not even mentioned during the meeting so it is believed that this new revelation may not be as concrete as the interest in other stars looking for new clubs or ones that are departing from previous ones.
