FC Barcelona have landed some of the world’s best players in the Catalan capital during the last two years. This year, the club brought Ilkay Gundogan, Joao Cancelo, and Joao Felix to the squad, while last season, Xavi saw his ranks bolstered by Kounde, Raphinha, Christensen, and Lewandowski.
All these players brought in a year ago have successfully incorporated into the squad. As already reported here, Kounde is considered by the club as a very good investment in hindsight, and Christensen and Raphinha also played a crucial role in helping Barcelona win the league title last season.
Another record for Lewandowski
However, it is the Polish striker who has the best numbers during his time at the club, as he was the top-scorer in Spain during the last season.
Now, as reported by SPORT, he has broken a record previously held by another high-profile player in FC Barcelona’s history. Lewandowski has become the player to score the most goals in his first fifty appearances for Barcelona.
The veteran striker scored 35 goals as he completed his first fifty competitive appearances in a Barcelona shirt. Samuel Eto’o had previously scored 33 goals in the same number of appearances during the 2004-05 season under the tutelage of Frank Rijkaard.
Lewandowski shining after a poor start to the season
After scoring thirty-five goals in his first fifty appearances, Lewandowski has gone on to score another two goals, and his current tally for Barcelona stands at thirty-seven.
The Pole was unable to score in the first two games of this season, leading to worries at the club that he is beyond his best years as a striker. However, he has been in great form after these two games and has already scored four goals this season, three in La Liga and another in the Champions League against Royal Antwerp.
