Barcelona always tends to make signings with certain expectations in mind concerning their future. While success and titles are a given objective, given that the investment made on said players ought to translate to victories, there are individual expectations as well from these Barcelona stars.
With stars like Pedri or Ronald Araujo, it is almost a given that the individual progression will improve over time. However, when it comes to dealing with established stars and veterans, those expectations can be worrying.
Translating a player’s peak levels to another club entirely is a difficult ask, but special players manage. One such player, undoubtedly, has been German veteran Ilkay Gundogan this season for FC Barcelona.
As highlighted by SPORT, the former Manchester City star has already exceeded a special former tally. By this point of the season in his last campaign with City, Gundogan had one goal less than he currently does with Barça.
Following his winner against Las Palmas, Gundogan now has three goals in La Liga. The last two came against Real Madrid and Girona, respectively. This clearly showcases that the midfielder has adapted well to Barcelona and is carrying his tendency to score important goals.
Moreover, it is not just goals where he exceeds. Across all competitions, Gundogan provided eight assists last season for Manchester City. However, despite only being midway through the current season, he already has 6 assists for Barcelona. With two more of such assists, he would equal last season’s total tally.
Combining his heroic composure with his great game sense, Gundogan has been a great addition. Xavi’s Barça has found a great initiator in their team who can also be deployed as a pivot when needed. Given the current injuries in the team, Gundogan’s presence is quite welcome at Barcelona.
