The win that FC Barcelona got over Getafe in their last La Liga match would be a matter of delight for Xavi not only because of the three crucial points gained. This match also saw the team score four goals past their opponents and thus will be a morale-booster for the group.
Similarly, four different players got on the scoresheet, all of them who had not been able to score for some time. One of these scorers was the Portuguese forward Joao Felix, who scored the second goal of the match.
However, he had to leave the pitch after the hour mark because he had only just returned from injury and was still not 100% fit. As SPORT has noted, the winger himself understood his physical condition, as he talked to the media after the match:
“It has been my first start after the injury, and there are still some things that don’t come naturally to me, but with more games, they will come, and I will contribute more to the team.”
This was a very good return for Felix to the field after a significant time on the sidelines. Although remaining in the starting eleven will not be easy for the Portuguese international, he still believed that the competition for a starting spot will bring out the best in him:
“Competition is very good because it brings out the best in us. Personally, I try to do my best for my benefit and for the club’s.”
This win brings Barcelona to second place in La Liga for the moment, although Girona still have a match to play. Felix commented on how this situation will impact the two teams: “It’s good to put pressure on Girona because now they will play knowing they are in third place. It’s also good for our confidence.”
As Felix himself noted, he is still not at his sharpest level yet and will need some games to get back to his best. He needs to start showing his best level soon, as the season is close to its end, and he has yet to convince Barcelona to make a push for his continuation at the Catalan club beyond this season.
