Barcelona star midfielder set to make historic appearance against Osasuna

FC Barcelona have a special relationship with midfield, when seen in contrast with other areas of the pitch. Some of the best midfielders in the history of the sport have played for the Catalan club, and the club’s academy also churns out quality midfielders regularly.

Thus, only the very best of the midfielders are able to make a mark for themselves in Barcelona, but one midfielder from the current crop available to Xavi seems to be headed to make history for the club. This midfielder is the 19-year-old Pablo Gavi.

Gavi the youngest to reach 100 games

As Mundo Deportivo has highlighted, Gavi is on course to become the youngest player to reach 100 official appearances for the Blaugranes. The midfielder is expected to start the match against Osasuna tonight being only 19 years and 29 days old.

If Gavi achieves his century of Barcelona appearances tonight, he will surpass Bojan Krkic, who reached his first hundred games for the Catalan club aged 19 years, two months, and twenty-four days, during the 2009-10 season.

Another current Cule youngster will be sitting third on the list after tonight if Gavi reaches this milestone, i.e., Pedri. The Canarian midfielder reached his first hundred games aged twenty years, two months, and three days in January this year.

Gavi’s ascend at Barcelona

With the talent and eagerness Gavi has shown during his time at Barcelona, there is every reason to hope that Gavi will go on to shatter other records as well in the future. Gavi has already played in all three league games up to now this season, showing Xavi’s confidence in the youngster.

The youngster has had amazing continuity and consistency over the last two seasons, as he made 47 appearances in the 2021-22 season and 49 appearances in the 2022-23 season. In all these appearances, the midfielder has scored six goals and given thirteen assists.
