Several signings made by FC Barcelona in the last summer transfer window have gelled in quite nicely at the Catalan club, with Ilkay Gundogan, Oriol Romeu, Joao Felix, and Joao Cancelo all playing an important role in Xavi’s squad.
While the quality of Gundogan and Cancelo were there to see for everyone, doubts about Joao Felix had been growing for some time.
His time at Atletico de Madrid was not his best, and he could not rediscover his best form with Chelsea in the second half of last season. However, he has been performing at a very high level since joining Barcelona.
Former Atletico Madrid player on Felix
His performances with Barcelona have attracted praise for the forward from numerous quarters, and according to SPORT, Diego Ribas, a former Atletico Madrid player, is the latest to acclaim Felix for his performances in Barcelona. While he did not play with Felix at Atletico, Ribas was aware of Felix’s quality and believed he could succeed at Barcelona:
“João Félix can succeed at Barça. Football is like that, and in Europe, it’s common to change teams, coaches, and environments. It’s normal that he may play better and feel more comfortable at another club. That’s what happened with João Félix.”
“His quality is unquestionable, and now at Barça, he has all the possibilities to succeed. He fits in with the style of play and has all the characteristics to do well.”
An important player for Xavi
Joao Felix has already become an important player for Xavi after having impressed since his very first match as a starter against Real Betis.
He has significantly improved the left wing for Barcelona, and the Catalans are already considering incorporating Felix permanently into their squad. Now, Ribas’ words will further encourage Barcelona to ensure Felix remains at the club.
