Football is a rather poetic sport, and Barcelona are no strangers to this phenomenon. The Catalan giants have often managed to come across former players in competitive games. These matches bring about a unique desire and personal feeling to them as well.
The upcoming Spanish clash against Atletico Madrid is expected to be no different. Antoine Griezmann, formerly a player for FC Barcelona, will be just one of the few faces that meets with an old employer.
However, ahead of the game against Barcelona, Griezmann took out time to talk about Joao Felix. Another player who has worn the colors of both Atletico and Barcelona, Felix is currently on loan at the Catalan club and is assumed to be playing for his ‘dream side’.
According to Griezmann, however, his departure from Atletico was mainly the Portuguese star’s own fault. He stated:
“There were moments when Joao did very well, and worked very hard, but you have to be consistent. Perhaps there came a moment where he got tired, didn’t see himself here, and that’s why he made the effort, and the club as well, to facilitate his departure.”
However, as SPORT highlights, Felix has a different perspective. The 24-year-old believes it is much more of a collective reasoning, and that he disagrees with the words of his former teammate:
“I don’t agree; he has his opinion, and I won’t comment on it. There are things I could have done better, as well as everyone. Some things haven’t gone well, but it’s not the fault of just one person but several.”
Felix and Griezmann will now have the chance to potentially settle their differences on the field as well. With both players in great form, it seems they are likely to start for their respective sides.
For Felix, it is clear that his preference remains Barcelona. Even as he pointed towards the crest following his goal against FC Porto, the Atletico Madrid president gave his own two cents about it as well.
