There has been a lot of news about Frenkie de Jong coming out of Barcelona for the last few days. Earlier, it was reported that Barcelona have put a new contract on the table for the midfielder, one that will add more years to his stay at the club, but will take away a significant amount of money in wages.

FC Barcelona are expecting the midfielder to accept this new contract, but if he does not do so, the Blaugranes will be open to selling him if a suitable offer comes.

Then, there was another report that claimed that the Catalan club had already received an offer for the Dutchman from the Premier League side, Tottenham Hotspurs.

However, SPORT now reports that Frenkie is not thinking about accepting either the new contract or leaving the club with a high offer, and has taken the same position that he did when Barcelona wanted to sell him to Manchester United.

De Jong and his entourage are tired of being dragged into the spotlight with his contractual situation, particularly when the club needs him to be at his best in the team’s continuing crisis on the pitch.

They believe that the player is not to be blamed for his high wages, as he had deferred his salary only because the Catalans were unable to pay it fully during the pandemic years.

For their part, Barcelona have put the contract on the table for De Jong, but there has been no response yet, and a response is also unlikely to come in the coming days. The Dutch midfielder is very comfortable at Barcelona and wants to continue playing at the club for a long time.

It is unclear whether Barcelona will push the player to leave, but there is very little the Catalans can do in this regard. The midfielder has big teams interested in him, including PSG, Manchester United, and Chelsea, but an operation to get him will be very complicated keeping in view both the high transfer fee and the high wages of the player.
