With his heroics in the game between FC Barcelona and Athletic Club, Marc Guiu has become an overnight star among the Cules throughout the world. The youngster came on late in the game but needed only 23 seconds to have a debut that most players can only dream of.
Having scored the goal that put Barcelona ahead of the Bilbao team on the night, the youngster would have been the happiest person on the pitch. However, his family, which was in the stands last night, was also euphoric, and as already reported here, videos of their celebrations of Guiu’s goal have gone viral on social media.
Guiu’s father on his son’s goal
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, Guiu’s father, Manel Guiu, also spoke to the media after the match and shared how happy he was with his son’s debut:
“Definitely, yes, undoubtedly one of the happiest. We couldn’t have expected, not even in our best dreams, a debut like this – every footballer’s dream debut.”
Manel also confessed that he did not realize how much time his son had needed to score the goal because: “With nerves, as soon as we saw him come out, we lost sight of the entire match.”
Eleven years of hard work
Manel Guiu then went on to share just how happy the entire family had been last night and recalled the eleven years of work that Guiu had done to get to this stage:
“Both his mother and sister and I were all crying. Surely back home too. All the effort he put in over eleven seasons, giving his all and more, led to this moment. He’s been with the team since pre-benjamin, from the very beginning of it all.”
Thus, Marc Guiu is the latest of the highly promising forwards to come out of La Masia, who are putting their mark on the game.
Lamine Yamal and Fermin Lopez have already been helping the first team this season, and there are other youngsters like Hector Fort and Pau Prim also ready and waiting for their chance to further showcase the extent of talent development at La Masia.
