FC Barcelona is home to several massively talented footballers that continue to be seen as world-beaters. Many of these stars possess great footballing talents, but they remain replaceable. However, there are a certain few that no player in the world would be able to replace for Barcelona.

One of those players is none other than Dutch midfielder Frenkie De Jong. Adored by the fans of Barcelona, he is even more admired by coaches and teammates on the field. The 26-year-old’s impact on the field is great for the Catalans, and his absence has been felt just as greatly.

Barcelona struggling without De Jong

In a recent article by SPORT, De Jong’s absence has been highlighted in terms of its statistical importance. Before his injury against Celta Vigo in September, De Jong had participated in 6 league games for Barcelona. With 5 wins and a singular draw, Barça were flying with the Dutchman.

He was also present for the Catalan giants in their 5-0 rout of Royal Antwerp. However, since his injury, Barcelona have barely managed to win past both Porto and Shakhtar Donetsk. Even in the league, Barcelona have won only twice since, having suffered two draws and a loss alongside that.

Moreover, his availability even allowed Oriol Romeu to shine brighter. The Dutch midfielder’s versatility and control over the game allowed Romeu much more relaxation to play his game. Not only does De Jong individually impact the team in a positive way, he also allows others to play better.

Recovery going well

Hence, the fact that he is recovering well comes as great news for Barcelona. The Catalan giants could possibly even see him return against Real Sociedad in the upcoming game. However, caution will still be taken in regards to the Dutchman. Xavi considers him a key part of his project, and according to SPORT, so does Deco.

The new Barcelona sporting director has already worked to improve relations between De Jong and the club due to certain differences caused by the entire Manchester United saga. Planning to sit down and discuss a renewal this season, Deco wants De Jong to stay at Barcelona well beyond 2026.
