Barcelona still have a very slim chance to sign a player in the January window

With a major regard to La Liga’s financial and registration restrictions, Barcelona’s chances to sign any particular player of their choice are limited exponentially. Moreover, with full knowledge in regards to players needing to take financial leverages and decreasing salary demands to be a part of this Barcelona project, it is quite evident that it remains a tall task to be able to incorporate new stars into the team during the winter window.

Barcelona’s plans for the January transfer window revolve around minimizing any expenditure if possible. Even Xavi himself has stated he does not really expect any new signings to arrive during the winter transfer market, yet this is due to more than just not needing any players, even if that explanation in itself does hold weight.

La Blaugrana are currently faced with a very strict budget of around €3 million only as the available funds that they are eligible to make use of during this window as per the reports from SPORT. This new hypothetical signing, if one is to be made, will need to either come at a free or on a loan deal with no innate requirement for an obligatory purchase to be accessible to the Catalans. This new six-month entry of a player still seems quite a complicated ordeal for FC Barcelona.

However, it is not unlike Mateu Alemany and the team behind him to end up finding cost-efficient alternatives in their transfer hunts. Last season remains a prime example as the integration of Adama Traore and Aubameyang on little to no transfer costs ended up being quite the fruitful acquisitions for Barcelona. Yet despite this, Barcelona’s squad is much improved in this ongoing season and it would seem very unlikely that Xavi would need any more reinforcements given the depth he already has at his disposal.

Ultimately if any signing is to be made in any particular position or area, it is expected to be one in the dimensions of a forward. This is due to some hints from Xavi, and the obvious departure of Memphis Depay to Atletico Madrid, that Barcelona would do well to have at least some more added firepower up front.
