Barcelona still skeptical about Ansu Fati’s future at the club

FC Barcelona will have a major summer this time around as they look to polish their squad once more. Last season’s squad was unable to live up to the objectives set for them, and change became a necessity. That is why Barcelona have already changed the coach while also hoping to make some changes in the squad.

However, before they can go around and enter new signings into their books, they need to take care of pending operations. The return of many Barcelona loanees is being studied and it is obvious that not all of them will have a place within the first team in the upcoming season.

The same applies to 21-year-old Spanish forward Ansu Fati, whose future at the club is far from guaranteed. In fact, according to SPORT, Barcelona have already told his agent, Jorge Mendes, to begin looking for other alternative destinations in case things go south for the youngster.

Still the successor to Lionel Messi’s iconic ‘10’, there has always been a lot of hope for Fati at Barcelona. However, following his disappointing loan spell at Premier League side Brighton, the player’s already diminishing stocks took another nosedive.

While Hansi Flick is willing to test the player out during pre-season, and Barcelona reportedly want him to succeed, the reality of things is not too promising.

Thus, Barcelona are keeping in mind the possibility of permanently selling him. They would like to avoid loan deals as it would imply Barcelona having to pay at least some part of his salary just as they did with Brighton. For now, there is interest from the Middle East and from a few Spanish clubs.

However, the likes of Real Betis, Valencia, and Sevilla are no juggernauts in terms of finances either. It would be impossible for them to even take on the majority of the player’s salary moving forward. On the other hand, while the interest from Saudi Arabia may be financially beneficial for Barcelona, the player has no intention of leaving Europe just yet.

There is still the possibility of English side Wolverhampton Wanderers coming into the picture, especially given their close ties with Jorge Mendes. However, Fati would prefer to stay in Spain if possible.

Moreover, the player himself is reluctant to leave in a deal that permanently severs his connection to Barcelona, but only time will tell what comes to be for the winger who once dreamed of conquering the footballing world.
