In the current climate of the summer transfer window, FC Barcelona are primarily concerned with two specific positions to address and reinforce. The two positions in question are those of the central defensive midfielder and the right-back position.
With specific regard to the right-back position, Barcelona have considered the possibility of potentially signing different right-backs throughout the summer window thus far. From players within Spain to those outside the country, the Catalans continue their search with a particular star from England still fresh in the back of their minds.
As per the most recent update provided by Spanish outlet SPORT, Barcelona continue their hunt for a particular right-back from Real Valladolid by the name of Ivan Fresneda, yet they keep fresh in their mind the availability of unwanted Manchester City right-back, Joao Cancelo.
The 29-year-old Portuguese right-back remains out of favor at Manchester City and Pep Guardiola does not count on him for next season, with the Premier League club looking to permanently offload him following German side Bayern Munich not having triggered his purchase option following the end of his loan with the Bundesliga outfit.
While Barcelona themselves are unable to offer a transfer fee in exchange for his permanent transfer at the moment, they are willing to take him on a loan with a potential purchase option.
The hurdles that would still however exist for the Catalans include the player’s salary of €8 million per season, a figure they would ideally prefer to have lowered and would need to consult the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes, regarding.
Although Ivan Fresneda of recently relegated side Real Valladolid remains the apparently reported priority for Barcelona at the moment as they advance talks, the Catalan club would do well to keep an eye out on the Cancelo situation, who simultaneously is being eyed by Premier League side Arsenal, who also remain interested in the Portuguese star.
