FC Barcelona find themselves in a dilemma ahead of the final days of the transfer window. The club is currently devoid of first-team center-backs with Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez being the only recognized pair. Of course, there is Jules Kounde but the Frenchman is effectively a right-back now.

With Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen not expected to be back for a few months and Eric Garcia’s return date unknown, Barcelona might need to dip into the market for a new center-back in the coming days.

As per Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have submitted a €20m bid to Bayer Leverkusen for 28-year-old Bundesliga-winning center-back Jonathan Tah. The German defender has less than a year left on his current contract. We covered a story last week that the Catalan club was interested in the defender.

Hansi Flick knows Tah very well from his time working as the German national team coach and looks keen on reuniting with the 28-year-old in Barcelona. Tah is an experienced central defender who can settle in without any worry.

Barcelona are not the only club in the race to sign Tah. German rivals Bayern Munich have been pushing all summer to try and acquire his signature but understandably, Bayer Leverkusen would prefer to sell abroad.

The last thing Xabi Alonso & co. will want to reinforce their direct title rivals and Barcelona are confident that their offer will be accepted. Leverkusen will know that they risk losing him for free if he isn’t sold this summer.

Tah is a good ball-playing defender who has the physicality needed for the position. He hardly looked ruffled when defending one-on-one and could be the ideal partner to someone like Pau Cubarsi.

If Barcelona are to spend the €20m on Tah this summer, it begs the question as to why they sold Mikayil Faye at all this summer. Regardless, most decisions of the club have left us baffled in recent times and we can add this one to the list as well.
