Despite being 36 years of age Robert Lewandowski is still performing at the peak of his powers. The FC Barcelona striker once again showed his prowess in front of goal last night, as he scored a hat-trick in the game against Alaves.

With these three goals, the Pole has already scored 12 goals in 11 games in all competitions this season.

Limiting his numbers to La Liga, he has 10 goals in 9 games, making him a firm leader in the Pichichi race for this season. But while he is showing his supremacy in terms of goals scored over other younger players, Mundo Deportivo notes that the Pole is also on course to beat his own numbers from the peak of his career.

Lewandowski had his three best seasons in terms of goals in the three years before his move to FC Barcelona. In the 2019-20 season, the one in which he won the treble under Flick, he had 34 Bundesliga goals in 31 games. But at this stage of the season, he had 11 goals to his name, while having played two fewer games.

In the succeeding season, 2020-21, he recorded his best numbers in Bundesliga, as he scored 41 goals in 29 games. But at this stage of the season, he only had 5 goals in 3 games.

In his last season at Bayern Munich, Lewandowski scored 35 goals in 34 games and had 7 goals in 7 appearances at this stage of the campaign.

With his 10 goals in 9 games, he certainly looks well on course to put even better numbers by the end of this season. He will be helped in this regard by the fact that a Bundesliga season has only 34 games, while a La Liga season has 38 games.

There is also a stark improvement in his goalscoring numbers over his last season at Barcelona under Xavi. In the 2023-24 campaign, he had only 19 goals in 35 games, and at this time of the season, he had only 4 goals to his name. Thus, he has already scored more than half of the goals he scored in the entire last season.
