While most of the positions in the FC Barcelona squad are currently covered with at least one substitute, the club does not have much cover for Lewandowski as he is the only natural center-forward in the squad.
Moreover, his experience and leadership skills make him an essential starter for Xavi, and the player himself is so competitive that he would never like to miss a game, even if he is fatigued or tired.
Lewandowski playing every match
As SPORT has noted, these two aspects have been clearly on display this season. The Pole remains one of the only two players with Kounde to have started every possible game with Barcelona since the start of this season.
After coming back from his national team in the last international break, the striker has played full games against Real Betis and Royal Antwerp.
With Lewandowski already being 35 years old, and matches coming thick and fast for Barcelona in the upcoming weeks, the Pole cannot be expected to keep on playing with such consistency for long.
Rest in the upcoming week
Furthermore, as already reported here, Xavi also wants to keep making regular rotations in his squad, and keep everyone in shape and feel important. Thus, Lewandowski is likely to get rested either in the upcoming game against Celta or in the midweek clash against Mallorca, with the latter option having more chances of fulfillment.
It will be interesting to see how Xavi replaces Lewandowski in the starting lineup when he is rested. It was previously reported that the Barcelona head coach is considering Ferran Torres for such a role, who currently going through a magical run of form.
