FC Barcelona, similar to the rest of the clubs in Europe, are no strangers at this point to the massive financial power that exists within the Middle Eastern country of Saudi Arabia.
The nation has managed to swoop away many of Europe’s biggest stars in recent months courtesy of their great bargaining ability and are still seemingly not done.
The likes of Neymar Jr, Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Fabinho, Kalidou Koulibaly, N’golo Kante, Riyad Mahrez, Franck Kessie, and Roberto Firmino are just a few of the several European stars that have made their way over to the Saudi Pro League over the last few windows.
According to Spanish outlet SPORT, however, Saudi Arabia was not quite done with FC Barcelona following the transfer of Franck Kessie to Al-Ahli. The report states that many attempts were also made to persuade Polish striker Robert Lewandowski to leave behind the Catalan giants and instead make his way to the Saudi Pro League as well.
However, as has also been confirmed by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the result of these attempts was not at all positive for Saudi Arabia as Robert Lewandowski rejected all such approaches as his desire remains to succeed at FC Barcelona following his transfer last summer from Bayern Munich to the Spanish club.
Following 12 years in Germany spread across terms with both Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, Lewandowski decided to take Barcelona as his next destination and has thus far become one of the most crucial pieces of the puzzle for Xavi Hernandez as both a leader on the field and away from it as well.
The player has already adapted to both the club and the city of Barcelona as he continued to impress last season with his immense goal-scoring capabilities and even looks to be coming back to his best this season as well.
It remains to be seen just how crucial Lewandowski can end up being this season for Barcelona however, as a long process awaits both the Pole and his club up ahead across various competitions.
